Spurs Summer League Game 3

The Spurs lost their Wednesday night matchup in Vegas 86-80 to the Clippers in an up and down game that had plenty of highlights for a summer league run. It’s the first loss for the Spurs squad that was without Kawhi Leonard as the San Antonio front office try to get better looks at the players trying to make the NBA roster instead of more run for the guy who will be starting at small forward come October.

The Clippers controlled the game for most of the four quarters, at one point enjoying a 19-point third quarter lead. Spurs Summer League Game 1

As the Vegas NBA Summer League continues, the Spurs played their first game Sunday night (the game didn’t air on television until late Monday morning). If you aren’t familiar with the summer league system, the games are played with four 10-minute quarters and a 10 minute halftime.

Spurs Summer League Preview

As the NBA offseason continues to blow by, everyone can take a break from the “Dwightmare” and check out the NBA summer league. The teams consist mostly of the league’s top draft picks learning the ropes of their new systems, and are filled out with players on the bubble of the NBA or foreign hoops.

Twenty four teams will scrimmage for ten days July 13-22 in Las Vegas. The showcase will feature 13 of the top 14 draft picks from this summer’s draft, with the exception being  number one overall pick Anthony Davis, who is with the national squad for the Olympics.

The Spurs announced their summer league roster earlier this week and some names stand out while others are widely unknown. Among them are Spurs second year players Kawhi Leonard (who has already been in Vegas with the U.S. select team for weeks) and Cory Joseph, free agent guard James Anderson, and the Spurs second round pick from this year, Marcus Denmon.
