LeBron James Chooses Cleveland

LeBron James announced that he is signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday morning on SI.com. The story was reported by Sports Illustrated’s Lee Jenkins.

James wrote the article with Jenkins, stating “I’m Coming Home.” From the article…

I always believed that I’d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I just didn’t know when. After the season, free agency wasn’t even a thought. But I have two boys and my wife, Savannah, is pregnant with a girl. I started thinking about what it would be like to raise my family in my hometown. I looked at other teams, but I wasn’t going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy.

Terms were not announced as of yet, but the NBA Free Agency dominoes are about to fall. Fast.

It is already being reported that the Rockets will attempt to sign Chris Bosh and match the Mavericks offer sheet to Chandler Parsons. First, Houston must complete the Omer Asik deal to New Orleans, then trade Jeremy Lin. If all these moves can be made, Houston will have added James Harden, Dwight Howard, and Chris Bosh is consecutive years.

Carmelo Anthony is now expected to re-sign with the Knicks, although the Bulls remain interested in trying to pry him away.

Many speculated that the infamous letter written by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert was still in the way of LeBron returning to his original team. LeBron on the letter…

To make the move I needed the support of my wife and my mom, who can be very tough. The letter from Dan Gilbert, the booing of the Cleveland fans, the jerseys being burned — seeing all that was hard for them. My emotions were more mixed. It was easy to say, “OK, I don’t want to deal with these people ever again.” But then you think about the other side. What if I were a kid who looked up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and then he left? How would I react? I’ve met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man. We’ve talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. I’ve made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge?

More updates will be posted as they emerge.

Bosh and Wade Agree To New Deals (RUMOR)

Just reported by Brian Windhorst, Chris Bosh will sign a 5 year deal with the Heat that will pay him $11 million this upcoming season. Dwyane Wade will also sign a new deal, reportedly 4 years that will pay him $12 million in 2014-15.

Assuming that LeBron signs the max deal with Miami, the Heat will have around $12 million in cap space to sign free agents, significantly more than some expected.

UPDATE 2: Reps for Bosh and Wade are denying reports that their clients have reached agreements with Miami.

UPDATE: It’s now being reported that Miami is targeting either Kyle Lowry or Marcin Gortat to add to the Big 3. Both players were previously thought to be resigning with their teams, Toronto and Washington, respectively.

Spurs Win Fifth Championship

Where do you even start with this team?

Still less than four days removed from the final buzzer, the die-hard fan in me is continuing to ride the wave of excitement that the 2014 San Antonio Spurs brought to us this spring. The “Drive for Five” now complete, the next goal has quickly been branded the “Race for Seis.” But there is plenty of time to focus on next season later. As a basketball enthusiast, it’s important to try to quantify this team’s place in history.
